My son was on the way. I needed not only a stable, healthy, and nurturing home for the two of us, but also a supportive environment that would allow me to complete my degree in international business and economics. Because of my education, and the skills I’m learning at Jeremiah Program, I’m acquiring powerful tools with which I will create a strong and bright future for Valentino.

The Admission Process

Women are referred to Jeremiah Program from social service agencies, educational institutions and by word of mouth. To ensure full occupancy throughout the year, program staff screens candidates year-round. Women who meet our basic criteria and demonstrate motivation may apply to the program.

Applying to Jeremiah Program

When an interested woman contacts Jeremiah Program, staff members explain the program and criteria for participation. If a woman meets the requirements, she will be directed to complete the application and fax or send it in.

The application process includes:

  1. Candidate completes the application on line (see apply on line above) or picks up an application at Jeremiah Program. If she has any questions, she may contact the Director of Admissions at 651-332-5017.
  2. The Director of Admissions reviews the application and determines eligibility for intake.
  3. If eligible, candidate has an in-person meeting at Jeremiah Program during which the Director of Admissions further assesses the candidate’s fit for the program.
  4. Based on the Intake interview, eligibility for pre-admissions is determined and additional or alternate resources may be recommended.

If she does not meet our criteria, we will refer her to other, more appropriate agencies.

Pre-Admission Prepares Candidates

Once a candidate is accepted for Pre-admission, she makes a 16-week commitment before being invited to fully participate in the program. The Pre-Admission process has three major components.

  1. Empowerment Training—a 16-week program that allows a woman and Jeremiah Program staff to assess the appropriateness of the program for the family. In pre-admissions, women gain an understanding about the responsibility of being in the program. Jeremiah Program assigns each candidate to a coach who guides and supports her along the way.
  2. Screening with Professional Counselors—occurs around eight weeks and verifies candidate’s ability to commit to the rigor of the program. The screening includes assessments from certified career counselors, a degreed psychologist and staff interviews. We conduct ability testing, psychological readiness and motivation assessments, drug screening and career preference testing. These tests give Jeremiah Program a baseline for assessing program success and identifying additional resources that can aide the family. At this time, candidates also begin meeting with the Employment Task force (as part of the career testing).
  3. Meeting with Admissions Committee—upon completion of the tests, candidates undergo an interview process with the Admissions Committee. Depending on evaluation results, the individual may or may not be invited to fully participate in the program. If invited, entrance into the program, depending upon apartment availability, may occur immediately after acceptance.
